  • 13.6 million single custodial parents in the United States

  • 11.4 (84%) single mother custodial parents in the Unites States


Single mothers comprise the largest number of custodial parents who are raising our children:

  • 26% of the nation's children are raised by single mothers

  • 56% of single mothers are raising one child

  • 44% of single mothers are raising two or more children

Unemployment Data

Unemployment rates for single mothers are double those of the general population:

  • 50% of single mothers work full-time

  • 29% of single mothers work part-time

Obstacles/Difficulties

  • Unable to find jobs for which they qualify

  • Health issues for themselves and/or their children

  • Inadequate/affordable housing

  • Lack of support systems
