JFS Mission
To assist single mothers by providing a coaching and support system that will help increase their self-confidence and workplace competencies while connecting them to opportunities for leadership roles in their communities.
JFS Goal
To provide coaching and support that will empower, assist, and enhance the lives of single mothers and their families so that these women can serve as role models for their children, contribute to their communities, and achieve their career goals.
Program Description
Journey For Success matches community volunteers (coaches) with single mothers to become learning partners. Together, the pair will each establish goals to achieve during their partnership. Through weekly interaction, partners will be encouraged to participate in a range of activities designed to strengthen and build their relationships. One-on-one activity may vary from a simple phone conversation, a recreational outing, completing a job application together, or registering for school. JFS participants, coaches and single mothers, will meet on a scheduled basis and establish a learning community. Community building activities will include sharing stories, creating a support system to assist each mom in accomplishing the goals she sets, forming small learning groups with other JFS pairs, and/or perhaps working on a community project.

Partnering with the YWCA
Still Hope Foundation, Inc. has a long history of working with the YWCA South Hampton Roads. Based on our shared values as well as the client demographic served, we are certain that the YWCA is uniquely qualified to implement our core initiative, the Journey for Success program, while still maintaining the original mission, vision, high standards and program integrity our clients and community both deserve and have come to expect.
As such, a new and exciting partnership has been formed through which the YWCA will assume responsibility for administering the JFS program while the Foundation will make as its primary responsibility the provision of funding support in order for the continuation of efficient and effective implementation of the program. Additionally, all YWCA resources will continue to be made available to the JFS program participants. A Program Coordinator will work from the YWCA's Norfolk, Virginia, location and will be responsible for all aspects of JFS program. The Executive Director of the YWCA will provide direct oversight.
The YWCA will provide ongoing assessment and evaluation of the Journey for Success program with periodic outcome reports and will provide feedback on the impact of JFS in the community. A Foundation representative will continue to participate in the selection process for program participants.
Our collaboration with the YWCA South Hampton Roads assists us in achieving our goal of ensuring that every single mother has the opportunity to build and maintain a successful and strong family unit.
