Target groups for JFS Program Participation

JFS will focus on two (2) categories of single mothers

        I.    Single Mother Transitioning from Crisis situation

              This mother is emotionally and/or mentally healthy and is ready to transition

              out of an an agency or social service program.  She is trying to start anew and 

              needs help navigating through life's challenges.

        II.   Working Single Mother

              This mother is currently employed and parenting alone.  She may or may

              not be in a low paying career position, but finds her circumstances both

              challenging and overwhelming.  Her lack of education, job skills training,

              low self esteem, etc. may all be inhibitors to her forward movement.

            

 Selection Criteria for JFS Participants (Single Moms)

  • Must be referred by collaborating partner, agency, or other professional

  • Must be emotionally/mentally healthy; not currently in treatment for mental disorder

  • Meets description of target population

  • Must be ready to transition into self sufficiency

  • Must be age 18 or older

  • Must be primary caregiver to one or more dependent children

  • Complete a Journey for Success Mentee application

  • Submit to and have positive outcomes in both criminal history background checks and child protective services screenings

  • Must not use illicit drugs

  • Must not use alcohol or controlled substances in an inappropriate manner

  • Must commit to weekly interaction with Mentor (learning partner) which leads to a one (1) year commitment

  • Personal screening interview with Program Coordinator

Selection Criteria for JFS Volunteers (Coaches)

  • Must complete Journey for Success Mentor applicaton

  • Must be 21 years or older

  • Meets be an objective listener and advisor

  • Must have a desire to help a single mother strengthen her family

  • Must submit to and have positive outcomes in both criminal history background checks and child protective services screenings

  • Must commit to weekly interaction with Mentee (learning partner) which leads to a one (1) year commitment

  • Must not use illicit drugs

  • Must not use alcohol or controlled substances in an inappropriate manner

  • Agrees to attend required training sessions

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Must have a valid D/L with driving record and proof of insurance

  • Personal screening interview with Program Coordinator
